Size:18cm x 10cm (L X W)
An African handcrafted finger piano that is know in Africa as Kalimba (also called by other names). The Kalimba Finger piano is crafted out of giant bushel gourds consisting of a number of thin metal blades (keys) mounted on a sound box or sound board. The keys are mounted with different free lengths to produce different notes, and they are typically struck at the end by the performer’s thumbs while the sound box is held by the fingers.
These African finger pianos are used at traditional ceremonies such as weddings and funerals and has been around for hundred of years. There are various styles of these finger pianos all known differently depending on the area that the originate from.
Each Kalimba Finger piano is an "original" work of art, individually hand carved, no two are exactly alike which adds to the value of each piece. The original nature of tribal art will be reflected by variances from the Kalimba Finger piano as shown, each piece of a specific style is similar, but not identical.
