African Shona Ironwood Shield Mask from Zimbabwe

Discover this distinctive African Shona shield mask from Zimbabwe, a striking wooden sculpture carved from ironwood. Measuring approximately 75 cm in height, this decorative piece combines the outline of a traditional African shield with stylised carved human figures.

Zimbabwean Shona Shield Mask

This mask is described as a Shona carving from Zimbabwe. Its shield-shaped form is complemented by two long, removable shafts, each decorated with abstract human figures. The combination of geometric form and sculptural detail gives the piece a distinctive presence.

The design draws on the visual language of African shields while presenting it as a decorative wooden artwork. It is a distinctive choice for collectors of African carvings, cultural art and statement interior décor.

Ironwood Carving and Craftsmanship

The mask is listed as being made from ironwood, a common name used for various dense hardwoods. The wood is noted for its deep orange-brown colour and suitability for carved decorative objects.

Each piece is handcrafted, so variations in wood grain, colour, carving details and finish should be expected. Your mask may differ slightly from the photographs while retaining the overall design.

The exact botanical species of the ironwood has not been established here, so it should not be assumed from the common name alone.
